An international award winning songwriter, Ian Sherwood takes catchy melodies and heart-breaking stories and mixes them with intricate guitar playing, saxophones and pop/rock grooves. His fusing of contemporary song styles (from pop to country to jazz) and contemplative lyrics makes him equally at home in front of a large audience or a quiet house concert. His energetic stage show and honest presentation have quickly gained him recognition as a solid front-man, lyricist and player.

His 2007 sophomore album “Art Of Conversation”, is gaining momentum being nominated for two 2008 East Coast Music Association Awards (Pop Album of the Year, CBC Galaxie Rising Star Album of the Year). This follows a productive couple of years for Ian who had nominations for Nova Scotia Music Week 2006 Pop/Rock Recording of the Year, Toronto Independent Music Awards 2006 Best out of Area Act, and being named Featured Album of the Week (Dec. 5th – 9th, 2005) by CBC's Radio One's Freestyle.

As a songwriter Ian made headway in 2007 by making it to the semi-finals of the 2006 International Songwriting Competition and winning the grand prize in the 2007 West Coast Songwriter's Association out of California.

Drawing inspiration from other songwriters like Bruce Cockburn, Bruce Hornsby and Craig Northey (Odds), as well as his heros John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Pat Metheny, and Bela Fleck, Ian splits his time with touring, performing and writing excursions to Nashville.

"I always try to keep in mind what Duke Ellington said, 'There are only two types of music; good and bad.'"

"..romantic as they are clever and snarky... Sherwood has a tongue that can be firmly planted- in-cheek, in his often funny, often poignant lyrics."
