Time: 8:00pm. Blind Date With A Star is a fundraising event which has been running for 14 years and which supports the important work that Chisholm does in the HRM community. Chisholm Services for Children is the only non-profit organization in Central Nova Scotia offering a long-term care program, which specializes in early intervention. Chisholm is dedicated to guiding children who face severe adverse circumstances like neglect and abuse, to a realization of self-worth. Chisholm helps children develop skills and capacities to function successfully in a community setting and grow as healthy, stable individuals. We are so grateful for the tremendous amount of support we’ve received throughout the years from the many different corporate partners, table/ticket purchasers, venues, celebrities, volunteers, and event organizers. The event continues to grow each year. As we look to the future, we hope that Blind Date With A Star will continue to grow and maintain its reputation as one of the most unique fundraising events in the HRM. Over the course of the event’s life, Blind Date has allowed us to support the LINKS program and Chisholm Services for Children!. LINKS continues to make significant differences in the lives of the children by developing their literacy and writing skills. By supporting Blind Date, you’re supporting this extremely valuable cause. Ask anyone who has been before, it is one of Halifax’s events not to be missed! We hope to see you there so mark it off on your calendar :) Tuesday, January 28th, 2014! The event kicks off at 5:30 with a reception at the World Trade and Convention Centre (1800 Argyle Street Halifax, NS) and then your Blind Date starts!!

Contact East, Atlantic Provinces
Time: 8:00pm. I’ve been asked once again to host this year’s Contact East event in St. John’s NFLD! Always a blast. I’m looking forward to once again being blown away with the amazingness of what Atlantic Canada has to offer as far as artistic talent goes. Each year Contact East brings the very best of Atlantic Canadian talent, in theatre, music, and dance, to gather and showcase their work for regional, national and international buyers in attendance. This year Contact East 2013 marks the event’s 22nd edition. Contact East 2013 will be held in St. John’s, NL from September 26 to September 29. The event brings together artists and presenters to facilitate the number and diversity of performing arts activities in Canada and on international stages. It will involve four days of formal showcase events, primarily music, dance and theatre; Contact Rooms where artists, agents and presenters can interact to discuss availability, venues and other performing arts issues; and a variety of workshops, clinics and round table discussions, which are relevant to the industry’s affairs. It is an opportunity for those who present live entertainment throughout the Atlantic Provinces, to get together and discuss their particular ideas and concerns. Contact East 2013 will provide an unprecedented opportunity to network with, and to learn from, some of the best presenters in the business from the Atlantic Provinces, across Canada, and internationally. It will also be a great weekend for all lovers of theatre, music, and dance, with 39 artists showcasing their talents. Contact East 2013 also presents an important opportunity for emerging arts professionals, artists and to the hosting community. Since 2010, Contact East has served as the site of the Atlantic Presenters Mentorship Program that provides emerging arts professionals and artists with the opportunity to network and learn from the best in the field. The 2010 also marked the beginning of Contact East’s outreach projects, pairing showcasing artists with existing community groups. A tremendous success, Contact East is proud to provide these opportunities to the St. John’s community in September!

Finally, after a teary, frantic phone call to a specialist’s office, they agreed to see Reese that morning. That afternoon at just 10-months-old Reese was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and the family were sent straight to the local children’s hospital oncology department.” The whole event is from 2-10pm. Point Rock House Concert Series, Fall River
Time: 8:00pm. Venue phone: 902-860-2345. I’ll be sharing this show with the talented Sean Kemp. If you have’t heard of him here’s what Mary Kikuchi says (she’s hosting the concert): For the past several years, Sean Kemp has been the principal violinist for Lennie Gallant. Now he has also emerged on his own with the release of his first solo CD. This highly regarded violinist has been featured on numerous albums including 2007 Juno Award nominated “When we get there” by Lennie Gallant and 2006 Juno Award nominated “Boy-Cott-in-the-Industry” by Classified. Sean has performed at most of the major music festivals in North America, often to standing ovations. Sean comes from an extremely diverse musical background, influenced by styles and genres from around the world. He started playing the violin at the age of six and went on to receive his musical training at the Royal College of Music in the UK. He was in great demand as a solo classical and chamber musician in the UK, often performing for British and European Royalty. I’m not sure exactly what we’re going to hear – it may well range from celtic to rock to classical to electronica funk – but I am sure it will be amazing. He is a mesmerizing musician!
